Sometimes it is much nicer to bend the tempo I agree to match the live performance. Good heavens! Isn't there a way to make this easier? I absolutely HATE having to go into the Tempo Track, and split it a million ways to Sunday, setting each segment (usually each only a bar long, and sometimes even just a measure long) to a manually-determined tempo value to align the start of the next bar or measure in the audio track with the start of the next bar or measure in my timeline.
What I would dearly love is for Studio One 3 to have some way of analyzing that entire guitar track, and auto-generating ALL of the Tempo Track edits that would have to occur in order to keep my timeline, my metronome, my quantized instrument parts, all in perfect time with that guitar part, right on through the song. Melodyne has no problem detecting a MEAN tempo, but setting the song to that tempo simply does not keep everything in lock-step, all the way through the song. So while it generally keeps good time, and doesn't really waver that far from a center bpm, it DOES waver a bit throughout the song. But the original recording was not done to a click track. One of these tracks is of a really tight guitar playing a pretty simple pattern throughout, and everything is being played on 1/8th, quarter, half and whole notes, in fairly good time. I am working with someone else's audio track bounces (stems).
